Shrink Plastic Instructions Shrink Plastic Instructions
Here are some general, easy to follow instructions to get you started with your
Shrink Plastic/Shrinkles.

Shrink Plasic/Shrinkles instruction step 1 Trace a picture onto a frosted or crystal clear (permanent pen) shrinkles plastic sheet, or draw a picture onto a white or black shrinkles plastic sheet. You can also stamp an image.
Colour in your design with colouring pencils, chalks, glitter pens or permanent marker pens. As the colour intensifies, it is best to lightly colour & be careful not to smudge. Shrink Plastic/Shrinkles instruction step 2
Shrink Plastic/Shrinkles instruction step 3 Cut around your design & make a punch hole if required.
Shrink by placing in a moderate oven, or use a heat gun, for a few minutes. This stage MUST be done by an ADULT. Shrink Plastic/Shrinkles instruction step 4
Shrink Plastic/Shrinkles instruction step 5 CAREFULLY remove from the oven, place under a mat or book for a few minutes so it cools down straight. Now you have your finished design,
7X smaller & 7X thicker than your original design.

Here are a few tips to help you achieve the best results:
  • There is a shiny side & a matt side to Shrinkles plastic sheets. Use the matt side to stamp & colour, except Crystal Clear which has two shiny sides & needs to be used with permanent ink pads or pens.
  • Oven temperatures vary, but try setting your oven to 350°f/175° (Gas mark 3) first, & raising it a little if you are not happy with the result.
  • Fully pre-heat your oven & tray, or you might experience excessive curling & bonding.
  • Do not cut your designs too intricately or have long narrow pieces, as they are likely to break.
  • Use a standard hole punch for keyrings. This produces a 5mm (approx) hole, 7mm (approx) away from the edge. If it is any closer to the edge it could break when it is shrunk.
  • The shrinkle is only ready when it has stopped curling, & is lying flat on the tray. It is still hot, so carefully remove from the oven, & whilst still pliable, place it under a mat or book for a few minutes to cool down & harden flat.
  • If you are not happy with the finished effect, you can put your shrinkle back into the oven, but it will take slightly longer the second time around to become pliable.
  • If the oven is too cold, the Shrinkle will not go flat, be pliable & may have bubbles.
  • If the oven is too hot, the Shrinkle will curl excessively & could bond to itself. If you notice this & you are quick, an ADULT can pull the bond apart, while it is still pliable, but BE CAREFUL as the Shrinkle will be VERY HOT.
  • Smudging occurs when you colour too heavily, use soft or waxy pencils, or lean on an area already coloured. For best results work from the top & work your way down, & colour lightly. Remember when it shrinks the colour intensifies.
